This is a disc of love songs by Johann Theile, regarded as one of the most outstanding contrapuntists of his era, despite being less well acknowledged today.

A master pupil of Heinrich Schütz and later an independent private teacher himself, Theile worked at courts of the nobility and became the first composer at the Gänsemarkt Opera in Hamburg. He was on personal terms with many of his Northern German colleagues and contributed significantly to the flourishing of Northern German music culture.

The artistic quality of these works was already recognized by Hermann Kretzschmar, who "numbered them among the most original and most significant achievements that German song of the seventeenth century has to show."

These songs are interpreted in lively style by all soloists and Les Amis de Philippe under Ludger Rémy
