Although there is not much biographical information available concerning Giovanni Salvatore we know that he was born in Castelvenere (Benevento) in 1610 and that he studied music with Giovanni Maria Sabino and Erasmo de Bartolo, better known as Padre Raimo. He was a teacher at the Conservatorio alla Pietà dei Turchini between 1662 and 1673 and at the Poveri di Gesù Cristo from 1675 to 1688,when he was replaced in this position by Don Gennaro Ursino. Salvatore probably died shortly afterwards for we find no further mention of him after this date
