Maurice Hewitt (1884-1971) started his career as the second violinist of the famous Capet String Quartet in which he played from 1909 to 1928. In 1941 he created the Hewitt Orchestra though he had already joined the French Resistance as early as 1940. Arrested in 1943 he was deported to Buchenwald – he gave his first concert after the war in 1945. Hewitt dedicated his music career to the revival of French Baroque music and this CD presents the first release of these recordings
