Chamber music ensemble Continuum's fifth American composer portrait is of Conlon Nancarrow, one of the most individual voices in American composition.

Nancarrow is perhaps best known for his works for player piano, an instrument for which he composed almost exclusively from the late 1940s to the early 1980s. However, he also wrote earlier pieces for solo piano, chamber groupings and orchestra; and in 1985 began again to compose for live performers. His two Pieces for Small Orchestra date from 1942 and 1986 respectively, while the piano work ¿Tango? dates from 1982 and the String Quartet from 1945
