Alberic Magnard and Guillaume Lekeu: two composers with curious destinies. The former fought the enemy to his last breath in 1914, the latter died at 24 from typhoid fever. Both were disciples of Vincent d’Indy, but each of them succeeded in affirming a style of their own. These large and beautiful Sonatas for Violin & Piano, dedicated to Eugene Ysaye, bear witness to this.

Lekeu makes the three movements of his work a long, narrative song, Magnard’s work is his largest. Incredibly demanding for its interpreters, exceptionally lyrical and broad in its expanse, this work undoubtedly places itself among the monuments of French chamber music.
