This Grammy-nominated disc of orchestral music by Henri Lazarof continues Naxos' reissuing of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra's Delos recordings and features the world-renowned American pianist Garrick Ohlsson at the keyboard.

Born in Bulgaria but resident in the United States for almost half a century, Henri Lazarof is one of the more interesting figures in American music. His often eclectic music is extraordinarily inventive and full of intricate detail, with references to earlier musical styles offsetting the intensity of expressionism.

This disc of world première recordings features two works commissioned by the Seattle SO: the Tableaux for Piano and Orchestra, written in response to the paintings of Kandinsky and the Symphony No. 2, both scored for an enormous orchestra including a wide variety of percussion instruments. Completing the programme is the lyrical and texturally rich Violin Concerto.
