Rued Langgaard's Antikrist is a religious mystery opera, a magnificent doomsday vision and a full length nightmare. No punches are pulled as the composer's breathtaking revelation unfolds with its intriguing allegorical characters and its powerful statement about the moral decay of modern society.

Langgaard calls his opera 'fantasy over the spirit of our time'. His intention is to pillory the modern lifestyle and mentality, to warn against political and moral demagogy and against the spread of self-sufficiency and materialism at the expense of the spiritual vales of existence. The opera has little sympathy for society as it has developed, and the moral is that in the end it is all about the individual in confrontation with God and the eternal values.

This new SACD release from Dacapo features Rued Langgaard's powerful vision of the coming of Antikrist in the spectacular co-production with the Royal Danish Opera and the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) from 2002.
