Landini is the best-known Florentine composer of his time, the Trecento, which is the true prelude to the Renaissance. His output constitutes by itself a quarter of the total surviving secular music of the Italian Ars Nova. A cultivated and erudite figure, he was one of the first Italian artists to emerge from anonymity as both poet and composer

After a Landini recital on Opus 111 that won a Diapason d’Or award of the year in 1996, Micrologus here chooses a broad range of pieces displaying the chief characteristics of his art: his poetic and artistic manifesto, the madrigal ‘Musica son’ from the Squarcialupi Manuscript; ballatas in two and three parts including the celebrated ‘Questa fanciull’Amor’; the three-voice caccia ‘Chosi pensoso’; the three-voice virelai ‘Adiu, adiu, dous dame’
