Bill Ives leads The Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford in a selection of his own liturgical music, composed between 1973 and 2000. Ives' music ranges from delightfully airy to deep and contemplative to soaring and celebratory.

The disc's major work is the magnificent Canterbury Te

Deum, written for the enthronement of the 103rd

Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, and featuring the addition of a brass quintet. Other works on the disc were written specifically for the Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford, in whose chapel this recording was made.

Bill Ives is perhaps best known as a former member of The King’s Singers, with whom he worked for eight years. He left the group in 1985 to concentrate on composing and arranging, working as Grayston Ives. In 1991, he was appointed Organist, Informator Choristarum (Instructor of the Choristers) - a position formerly occupied by many notable musicians, including Daniel Purcell, brother of Henry - and Tutor in Music at Magdalen CollegeOxford.

For Harmonia Mundi, Magdalen College Choir, with Fretwork, have recorded the best-selling Orlando Gibbons, With a Merrie Noyse, HMU907337. This was followed by a similarly successful recording of church music by Christopher Tye, HMU907396.
