Ross Edwards (born 1943) composed his 1st Symphony in 1991. The piece is heavily influenced by the composer's love of Gregorian Chant. "Star Chant" was conceived following a trip to Queensland on a stargazing expedition.

Ross studied with Peter Sculthorpe and Peter Maxwell Davies. His compositions, although contemporary, are appealing and accessible.
